About me

My name is Nurfaizah Binti Sofian and you can call me Fai. I'm 18 years old this year and currently studying in UiTM Dengkil in Foundation of TESL (Teaching English as Second Language).  Praise to Allah i have been given the opportunity to pursue my studies in the field that I'm looking forward to, which is education field. Being the eldest daughter in the family makes me the first to experience everything, including studying far away from my hometown, Sabah. I am eternally grateful that both of my parents have been giving me unconditional love and endless support in my journey to pursue my studies.

       WHY TESL FOUNDATION?

Truthfully, I never liked English since i was in secondary one because it is one of my weaknesses. The fact that I have to translate my mother tongue for this foreign language? Used to be one of my pet peeves. But my view for English subject shifted when I was sixteen, secondary four. For the first time in forever, I was unperplexed by all the information about English during my first English class with our english teacher, Madam Faniza Ibrahim.

I must say that Madam Faniza did teach me well and managed to make me feel interested in this subject. Ever since the first midterm exam in secondary four until SPM, i never failed in getting an A for it. Im forever thankful that I crossed paths with Madam Faniza. She made me realise that I can do well in anything that I want to if I work for it as I did for my English subject back in high school. She also made me see how critical it is to be a good educator because it is such a big platform to inspire someone to do better and change their view about literally anything. That is why I chose TESL foundation. I want to be an educator, following her footsteps. I want to inspire other people to do better too.

Coming from Sabah, The Land Below The Wind, i acknowledged that there are a lot of education inadequacy, especially when it comes to rural areas. I want to be able to help those unprivileged children with all that I have once I'm qualified to be an educator one day. To be an educator is one of  my biggest goals, thus that is why I chose TESL Foundation.

     PERSONALITY

I am a quiet person and i think that it is contrasting with the stereotypes given to TESL course students. I really like talking but most of the time the words in my mind stay there. I doubt the need of me talking sometimes because I cannot find the relevance of talking unimportant things. But on the other hand, I really love listening to people talking because I love observing. I love how people have various thoughts and opinions. At the same time, it gives me an opportunity to broaden my thoughts too.

Being the eldest daughter, I'm not going to lie that I'm slowly inserting motherly characteristic in living my life. Probably because most of the time I'm so used of  taking over my mom's role in taking care of my sisters when my mom is not around. I must say that I am now implementing the nurturing traits towards my friends. At times, i found it funny when my friends called me their 'fairy godmother'  because of my behaviour towards them but that's for sure will be one of the memorable things that Im going to keep.

   IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN MY LIFE

Before I let you wander to the next page, I would like you to know some of important characters in my life. They are my parents (Mr. Sofian and Ms. Dayang), my sisters (Farzanah and Nabilah), my other family members and my non biological family (Athira, Dayang, Balqis and Lutfil). They are my greatest support system before I get in to university life.

I guess we are now done with the chit chats. Let's move on to the next part. Click button below to see my academic journey in TESL Foundation for semester 1!
